The main difference is the goal of the treatment. The goal of Swedish Massage is typically relaxation, of course, benefits include: increased circulation, decrease in muscular tension, promote lymphatic drainage and increase muscle flexibility. Remedial & Sports Massage focuses on identifying and addressing a specific complaint using a range of techniques such as Myofascial Stripping (slow, deep gliding stroke along the muscle promoting lengthening and blood circulation to the muscle), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (a stretching technique used to increase range of motion and flexibility) and Joint Mobilisations (the movement of a synovial joint through its normal pain-free range).
  • How often should I get a massage?
The short answer is: it depends. During your consultation and after your treatment, your therapist will advise you on their advice with regards to a treatment plan specific to your complaint. In general, we think it is a good idea to get a massage once per month. This helps prevent tension building up and proactively reduce the risk of injuring yourself.
